New job: Author Events Lead for Grassroots Books!

By Posted in - NEWS on August 31st, 2013 8 Comments Grassroots

I had my first interview in about thirty years today... and I got the job!

I'm now the author events manager for Grassroots Books, a thriving independent bookstore in Reno, Nevada.

This is all thanks to my friend and mentor, NY Times bestselling author, Ellen Hopkins, who was sent a link to the Craig's List advert in case she knew anyone who might fit their needs. Ellen forwarded the email to me, I applied, and, after a three-and-a-half hour interview, I got the job!

To say that I'm thrilled, and a bit terrified, would in both cases be an understatement of mammoth proportions. While I know I can do this job standing on my head, it's still been a long time since I worked for someone else.

GrassrootsOwner_WEBI got a chance to get to know my new boss, Zoe Miller, during the Ventana Sierra Writing Workshop, and I was impressed by her hardworking, no-nonsense attitude then. I also quickly figured out that behind that business-like exterior there's a kind, brilliant, fun-loving human being I can connect with. I can trust Zoe to be straight with me, and that's a quality I value highly.

So, here's to the latest episode in The Crazy Adventures of Lia! I hope to learn a lot about selling books, which will be of huge benefit to me, as someone who aspires to write them for a living.

Zoe asked me to go full-time right away, but I requested a chance to finish and submit my manuscript first, while working part-time, and she kindly agreed.

Getting to work is going to be a challenge as I don't have a car, but a job is the first step.

There you have it. If you're an author considering an event in Reno, I hope you'll get in touch with me via . I'd love to help you make it a smooth, fun, stress-free experience!

I am so happy for you and know that you will be fabulous in this role. That's fantastic that you get to finish and submit your manuscript before you go full time.

Can't wait to hear your 'on the job' news.
